Bernie Sanders just made a move that answers all questions about a 2020 run

- Januari 25, 2018

Amid early speculation surrounding potential Democratic candidates to face off against Trump in 2020 – should he remain in office until then – Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) made a telling move this past weekend.

The former Democratic candidate, who only narrowly lost the nomination to Hillary Clinton in 2016, had reportedly gathered his top political advisers to discuss a 2020 presidential run.

Present for the meeting was Jane Sanders, Bernie’s wife; former Ohio state Senator Nina Turner; Bernie’s 2016 campaign manager, Jeff Weaver; Democratic strategists Mark Longabaugh and Julian Mulvey; senior Senate adviser Ari Rabin-Havt, political adviser Chuck Rocha, as well as pollsters, fundraisers, and communications aides.

Sanders and his advisers discussed not only the campaign, but strategy to run against Trump should he ultimately clinch the Democratic nomination.

Trump, for his part, has said that Sanders “wasn’t a serious threat and would be easy to beat.” However, a Morning Consult/Politico poll suggested that Sanders would beat Trump in a head-to-head matchup 42 percent to 36 percent.

The most recent poll conducted has former Vice President Joe Biden currently leading the pack of 2020 contenders, with Sanders in second place among Democrats. Oprah, who has already indicated that she will not run, is in third place.

Regardless of who runs, Trump has his work cut out for him. As the least popular president in modern history, his chances of securing a second term are slim to none—if he even makes it that far.
