With the United States still mired in a government shutdown amid Trump and his party’s refusal to fund the exceedingly popular Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) and Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP), Fox News opted to take a poll of public support for protecting undocumented “DREAMers,” as those who benefit from DACA are referred.
While Trump and Republicans refuse to budge on a provision that would allow the nearly 800,000 DACA recipients who were brought into the country by no fault of their own and ultimately know no life outside of the U.S. to remain in the country, the poll shows overwhelming support for the government to continue protecting these individuals.

The fact that a poll conducted by the closest network that this White House has to state-run propaganda is decidedly poor optics for Trump. In effect, the President’s decision to shut down the government is predicated on his opposition to a program that enjoys the support of 73 percent of Americans, and that’s according to a Fox News poll.
For someone who fancies himself a master negotiator, Trump didn’t put himself in a very favorable position moving forward.
