Michael Moore has not only been one of Donald Trump’s most persistent critics since he announced his intention to run for the White House back in 2015. He’s also been one of the most prescient.
Long before people started taking Trump’s candidacy seriously, Moore warned Democrats about how his twisted messaging had was resonating in the rust belt. Later, as the election drew near, Moore actually predicted Donald Trump’s eventual victory.
Last week, Moore penned a letter promoting MoveOn.org’s upcoming event to counter and preempt President Trump’s January 30th State of the Union address, and he went after Trump head-on, calling him a “narcissist” and “sociopath,” among other compliments.
“Donald J. Trump has proven himself to be completely unfit for office, a threat to our country, and an imminent danger to the world,” Moore wrote in the letter. “He is not well; he is a malignant narcissist and an active sociopath. And because he holds the codes to fire nuclear weapons, he is a singular threat to humanity,” he added.
“Our problems go far beyond one sociopath president,” he continued. “The mission that we are on and the work that we must do is to tear down the rigged system that produced Trump in the first place.
“We must imagine the America that we want to live in. We must create the post-Trump America,” he concluded.
The event has been dubbed “The People’s State of the Union,” and the stars have been lining up to participate. Actors Mark Ruffalo, Whoopi Goldberg, Rosie Perez and “Sex and the City’s” Cynthia Nixon will be among the celebrities joining Moore
The so-called “People’s State of the Union” will be held on Monday, the night before Trump’s address to Congress. Mark Ruffalo told Time Magazine their goal is to present “a better reflection of our state of the union based on a more populist point of view, based on the people’s point of view.”
“I think it’s important because we have a president who has a difficult time with the truth, who has a radical, divisive agenda,” Ruffalo continued, “and he spends an enormous amount of time focusing on the negative and hopelessness and despair.”
Groups We Stand United, Political Action, and Stand Up America are co-hosting the event with MoveOn.org, and it will be streamed live on Facebook.
