In typical fashion, Donald Trump Jr. took to social media with a characteristically smug post that also inadvertently incriminated himself.
The president’s eldest son posted a photo of a $20 bill with the phrase “DONALD TRUMP LIVES HERE” stamped onto the bill.
While he considers it “hilarious grade A trolling,” it’s also illegal to deface U.S. currency.
Per Banknote.com, “The specific federal law at issue is 18 USC 333, which proscribes criminal penalties against anyone who ‘mutilates, cuts, defaces, disfigures, or perforates, or unites or cements together, or does any other thing to any bank bill, draft, note, or other evidence of debt issued by any national banking association, or Federal Reserve bank, or the Federal Reserve System, with intent to render such bank bill, draft, note, or other evidence of debt unfit to be reissued.’”
This is not the first stupid move made by Trump’s most outspokenly arrogant child, and it certainly won’t be the last. But it is wholly indicative of his – and his family’s – disdain for the rule of law and this country’s long-held institutions.
