A Florida state representative just reached a new low for despicable behavior. Republican Elizabeth Porter trolled the Parkland survivors who are advocating for gun control on the house floor, simply because they had the audacity to ask for better protections after surviving a shooting rampage at their high school in which 17 people died.
“We’ve been told that we need to listen to the children and do what the children ask. Are there any children on this floor? Are there any children making laws? Do we allow the children to tell us that we should pass a law that says no homework? Or you finish high school at the age of 12 just because they want it so? No. The adults make the laws because we have the age, we have the wisdom and we have the experience,” she said.
Parkland student Emma Gonzalez, who has become one of the most recognizable faces of the anti-gun movement fired back on twitter.
Sorry if you think we want you to pass laws protecting us “just because we feel like it” https://t.co/lXKC0P6c29

Porter made her outrageous statement just before a 67-50 vote to approve a law to raise the minimum age required to buy a gun from 18 to 21 and establish a three day waiting period to buy a gun. The measure also looks at mental health, providing care in schools and measures to keep guns out of the hands of the mentally ill.
The bill doesn’t go as far as the Parkland students would have liked in that it doesn’t ban assault weapons.
