The Office of the Special Counsel just found Kellyanne Conway guilty of violating federal law

- Maret 06, 2018

The government oversight watchdog agency, the Office of the Special Counsel, officially informed the Trump administration this morning that Kellyanne Conway, the President’s close advisor and a Trump team surrogate notorious for her shameless abuse of the truth, has been found guilty of violating federal law on two occasions.

Conway violated the Hatch Act in two of her on-screen stints in 2017, one on FOX and Friends and one on CNN’s New Day with  Chris Cuomo, during which she was openly defending failed Republican candidate and accused serial pedophile Roy Moore in her capacity as a senior administration official.

The OSC’s report finds that:

“While the Hatch Act allows federal employees to express their views about candidates and political issues as private citizens, it restricts employees from using their official government positions for partisan political purposes, including by trying to influence partisan elections. Ms. Conway’s statements during the “Fox & Friends” and “New Day” interviews impermissibly mixed official government business with political views about candidates in the Alabama special election for U.S. Senate.”

Moore would go on to eventually lose that election in a stunning upset by Democrat Doug Jones, despite the astounding efforts of the Trump administration to convince the people of Alabama to elect a man widely known to prey on underage girls and who openly mourned the end of slavery.

The OSC has demanded that President Trump take “appropriate disciplinary action” in response to their findings; unfortunately, they cannot compel the President to take action, because White House staff and cabinet employees fall under the President’s direct purview.

Which means it is sadly likely nothing will come from this, though concentrated public and media outrage has proven to be surprisingly effective in the past; a year ago, one could never have imagined his son-in-law Jared Kushner being thrown to the wolves, but here we are.

Perhaps Kellyanne Conway will be the latest member of the Trump administration to discover the president’s demand for absolute loyalty is definitely not extended to those loyal to him.
