David Hogg, one of the survivors of the tragic shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, has transformed into a brave, undaunted activist for meaningful gun reform in America.
Hogg and his fellow survivors refuse to let these mass shootings continue unabated and they are working to hold Congress accountable. Hogg, in particular, has focused on the NRA and the blood money the gun fetishist organization has funneled into the senator of Hogg’s home state, Marco Rubio (R-FL). So far, Republicans have failed to rise to the challenge.
In response to Hogg’s perfectly reasonable belief that students shouldn’t have to fear gun violence in school, the right has unleashed a maelstrom of hate and fearmongering. Republican gun nuts are terrified that their access to weapons of war might be limited in some way. For many of them, their ability to have an AR-15 style rifle is more important than saving the lives of children.
To combat the growing momentum behind new gun legislation, conservatives have engaged in all manner of conspiracy-peddling about Hogg and his classmates, sinking so low as to suggest that they are “crisis actors” who don’t really attend Stoneman Douglas in the first place. It’s a stark reminder of just how unhinged the right-wing has become under the careful cultivating eye of Fox News and similar hysteria-spreading outlets.
Now, one Trump fan has taken the GOP’s hatred of David Hogg to a deeply disturbing new low. Daniel Kibblesmith, a writer for The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, shared a video from a now-suspended Twitter account. In it, a man wearing a “Make America Great Again” says he has a message for David Hogg, who he refers to as “the bitch at CNN.” The gun-toting man then threatens a civil war.
“You want to see what a civil war looks like? I’m going to show you what a civil war looks like,” the man says, before grabbing a rifle and opening fire on a photograph of David Hogg.
The video is deeply disturbing and clearly constitutes a death threat. This man must be held accountable for trying to intimidate Hogg with violence
It's weird how many responsible gun owners have no idea that death threats are illegal. pic.twitter.com/L0VKM55rkW
