While the nation remembers those who have fallen today, Trump took to Twitter to issue a self-congratulatory message, once again turning the spotlight onto himself.
The president’s Memorial Day statement is not only glaringly tone-deaf – using “happy” to describe the holiday as if it’s as festive as a birthday – but he goes on to catalogue an oft-repeated list of his own “accomplishments.”
Happy Memorial Day! Those who died for our great country would be very happy and proud at how well our country is doing today. Best economy in decades, lowest unemployment numbers for Blacks and Hispanics EVER (& women in 18years), rebuilding our Military and so much more. Nice!

Worse yet, Trump has frequently used his pulpit to deride members of the armed forces, including gold star parents Khizr Muazzam Khan and Ghazala Khan, the Pakistani American mother and father of United States Army Captain Humayun Khan, who was killed in 2004 during the Iraq War, as well as Senator John McCain (R-AZ), who was held captive by the North Vietnamese.
While it should come as no surprise that Trump, whose appreciation for our service members only extends as far as their reciprocated support for him, would use this day of remembrance to promote himself, it is nonetheless appalling and decidedly unpatriotic. Of course, for a man so limited in his ability to rein in his own sense of self-importance, his words are par for the course.
While the president spends today thinking about himself, the rest of America is remembering the fallen and their sacrifice for the ideals of a nation currently under attack by a narcissist with authoritarian desires.
